Cranes

If your operation utilise extensive crane operations, you will need to make sure that equipment and processes are fit for purpose, safe and comply with the LOLER - Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998.

Unfortunately, annual compliance inspections are not suitable for this purpose. That is because industry best practice and regulations in the UK make more stringent demands on operators.

This normally entails ongoing maintenance and repairs, periodical inspections using lifting equipment inspection software (minimum inspection intervals every 6 months), load testing and evaluation.

These inspections are called thorough examinations and are carried out by highly trained staff classed as “competent persons”. Risk assessment play their part in determining inspections intervals allowing for implementation of equipment manufacturers’ guidelines.

Detailed procedures for inspection of cranes is provided in the BS Code of Practice – Safe Use of Cranes : BS 7121 .
